He was to slowly become one of the most prolific bookmakers throughout the entire city of New York and its immediate suburbs. Wekar eventually gained a reputation as a top bookmaker – a “bookmaker’s bookmaker,” if you will. His reputation was that of a notorious old-time Jewish racketeer.
Milton (Milty) Wekar was born in New York City in approximately 1913. He had a brother by the name of Benjamin (Benny) Wekar who was also a well-known Brooklyn hoodlum and gambler.
