Joseph Barra was considered an “up and coming” young mafioso in the Genovese Crime Family involved in gambling and nightclubs in partnership with his father Modesto Barra, also a Genovese soldier. Barra was also known to maintain a “shylock” book, giving out usurious loans to needy Bronx gamblers and business people.
