What later became known as the Carlos Marcello Family of New Orleans was arguably one of the oldest, if not the oldest, Sicilian mafia clan to ever form in the United States. The city’s underworld history is replete with criminal activity by Sicilian mafiosi dating to at least the late 1800s.
