During the New England’s Mafia’s fledgling early days, Joe Lombardo is credited with having helped the Mafia first establish a beachhead within Boston’s underworld by killing off several key Irish gang leaders who were competing for racket control. He was involved in many rackets including bootlegging, extortion, bookmaking, and even murder, and was a highly respected and long-serving member of that Family.
