Andimo (Tommy Noto) Pappadio: Garments, Narcotics and Murder

Andimo (Tommy Noto) Pappadio was a key overseer of the Lucchese Family's garment rackets for boss Tommy Lucchese. He rose up through the ranks to eventually become acting boss until he got caught up in an underworld power struggle.

Andimo (Tommy Noto) Pappadio was born in 1914 in East Harlem, NYC.

He stood 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighed a solid 200 pounds. He had grey eyes and close-cropped brown hair around a balding top. He was light-skinned and had a two-inch scar that ran across his left eyebrow.

Pappadio was raised in the East Harlem section of New York City and frequented 108th St. and Second Ave.

In the late-1950s, he moved to 121 Eva Drive in the tiny environ of Lido Beach, Long Island to be near his boss Tommy Lucchese who had moved to Lido Beach himself.

Considered a Lucchese favorite, Pappadio associated with many top hoodlums, including Thomas (Tommy Dio) Dioguardi. John (Big John) Ormento (related through marriage), Victor Panica (another cousin), Salvatore (Tom Mix) Santoro, Joseph Vento, Michael Pappadio (his brother), Vito Genovese, and Frank (Cheech) Livorsi, among other top hoodlums.

Andimo Pappadio was a top garment center racketeer and narcotics trafficker.

As Lucchese’s “key” garment industry overseer of that Family’s garment rackets, Pappadio supervised over 20 odd dress factories for Lucchese.

He even partnered with Lucchese in various garment firms such as Anna-Lynn Sportswear at W. 35th St. in NYC, Bal-Frank Blouse Co., and a Nassau County garment firm.

In addition, Pappdio also partnered up with Tommy Lucchese's brother-in-law, Joseph (Joe Palisades) Rosato, in a garment trucking firm.

In 1959, Andimo was arrested with Vito Genovese, Carmine (Lilo) Galante, (Big John) Ormento, and other top mafiosi for a massive heroin importation ring.

They all ended up getting convicted and sentenced to long prison terms.

Pappadio's arrest record starts in 1936 for policy, aiding and abetting, narcotics conspiracy (heroin,) vagrancy (twice,) contempt of a rackets grand jury, and heroin sale.

He was convicted of policy, heroin sale (2 years and a day which was later revoked by a pardon,) and contempt (2 years.)

Law enforcement listed Pappadio as a vicious strong-arm enforcer and killer within the Big John Ormento drug network, with whom he was close friends.

His activities over the years were listed as labor and garment racketeering, policy (numbers,) and large-scale narcotics trafficking.

A Deadly Power Struggle

A long-time “soldier” in the hierarchy, Pappadio was elevated to Capo and higher to help run the Family after Tommy Lucchese's death in 1967.

By 1975, law enforcement carried him as the Acting Boss. But later, it seems Pappadio got caught up in a Family power struggle.

One evening upon arriving home from dinner at a local restaurant with his wife, Pappadio was set up and murdered. Stepping from his Cadillac, Pappadio approached a car parked at the curb to either investigate who it was or to talk to someone he knew. He was cut down by several shotgun blasts. Shortly thereafter, Tony Corallo, having been released from prison, assumed the leadership of the Family.

As a postscript, 13 years after Tommy Noto's murder, his kid brother Mikey met a similarly gruesome fate. After falling into disfavor with the mob hierarchy, Family soldiers killed Mikey.

Mike had also been a garment industry power, having assumed the role Tommy Noto previously held.
