Angelo Lapi was a soldier in the Genovese Family and the son of the notorious Joseph Lapi, also a Genovese soldier. Joe Beck was considered an important “capo di decina” and elder statesman of the borgata as he headed waterfront rackets near the Fulton Fish Market.
Known to law enforcement but little known to the general public, Angelo Lapi’s his primary area of operation was the Sheepshead Bay, and Marine Park sections of Brooklyn where he was involved in policy, bookmaking, shylocking, and other rackets.
