Frank (Cheech) Livorsi: A Well-Connected Guy

Both local and federal law enforcement authorities viewed Genovese soldier Frank (Cheech) Livorsi as one of New York’s most important mafiosi. Over the years, he was never known to be invested in any legitimate business, preferring instead to remain in the streets, engaging in various rackets.

Frank (Cheech) Livorsi - aka “Ciccio,” “Frank Livolsi” and “Francesco Livorsi” (TN) - was born in Chicago, Illinois, on November 10, 1903.

As a kid, he relocated with his parents Bartolomeo and Rosaria, and his eight siblings to the East Harlem section of Upper Manhattan.

This was a section of New York City that was rife with hoodlums and underworld activity and Frank was quickly drawn to the streets gravitating to a life of crime.

By the age of 24, Frank Livorsi had already started what would become a very serious police record.

From at least 1927 forward, the NYCPD logged arrests on their books for Livorsi that included assault, assault and robbery, first-degree homicide, federal alcohol tax violations (bootlegging), illegal possession of contraband sugar, federal narcotics law violations, and federal income-tax evasion.

By the early 1950s, Frank Livorsi had relocated with his wife and five daughters out of East Harlem to the lusher surroundings of Long Island’s South Shore.

The Livorsi family bought a waterfront home at 15 Fulton Street, Atlantic Beach.

This particular community abutted the Atlantic Ocean and later became well known as a “Mafia Row” among many key members of the New York underworld, particularly the Genovese and Lucchese crime families.

Over the years, he was never known to be invested in any legitimate business preferring instead to remain in the streets engaged in bootlegging, strong-arm extortion, interstate heroin trafficking, shylocking, and labor union racketeering among other illicit rackets.

He numbered among his closer associates some of the most dangerous and notorious gangsters known to police including such characters as Vito Genovese, Michael (Trigger Mike) Coppola, Gaetano (Tommy Brown) Lucchese, John (Big John) Ormento, Charles (Charlie Bullets) Albero, John (Johnny the Bug) Stopelli, Salvatore (Tom Mix) Santoro, Vincent J. Rao, Sebastiano (Babo) Vento, and John (Johnny Dio) Dioguardi, to name but a few.

He was an extremely respected mafia figure who was related through the marriage of several daughters to other top mafiosi from both the Lucchese family as well as the Detroit mob.

For instance, one daughter named Rose Marie was married Tommy Dioguardi, the brother of Johnny Dio. His daughter Delores was originally married to Sam Meli, the son of Detroit capo Angelo Meli. But they divorced and she remarried Lucchese soldier and John Ormento's close associate Salvatore LoProto. Ormento's own son Tom was married to Patricia Livorsi.

These nuptials were not untypical of Cosa Nostra doctrine and served to further bolster the relationships of Livorsi and his Genovese crew to other important borgatas.

In particular, the Meli, Tocco, and Quasarano families of Detroit operated regimes within the Joe Zerilli crime family.
