Giovanni Schillaci began his career as a burglar in Harlem, working with burglary rings that included future informant Joe Valachi. In fact, he was first named as a mafia member by future underworld Valachi during the 1963 McClellan Hearings before Congress. Schillaci was listed as an inducted “soldier” in the East Harlem regime of Genovese Family capo Michael Coppola.
