In a scene worthy and reminiscent of The Godfather, back in the late 1960s, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), hid several recording devices among Luppino’s beloved tomato plants in the backyard of his home. Within hours of their installation, investigators were getting an earful of the classic, often colorful opinions of one of the most important Italian-born racket bosses Canada ever had.
Giacomo Luppino was born in the village of Oppido Mamertina, Calabria, Italy, back in 1900. By his late teens it is said that he was already hustling on the streets of his neighborhood of Castellace.
