In 1972, it was determined that a cigarette bootleg ring operated by Mario Gigante, smuggled over 1,100,000 cartons of cigarettes into the state within a single year.
Mario (The Shadow) Gigante was born in 1923 in New York’s Greenwich Village section. He resided at 30 Winnebago Road and 36 First St., in Yonkers.

He was the brother of Vincent (The Chin) Gigante, Ralph Gigante, and Pasquale (Patsy) Gigante, all of whom became Genovese Family members, and Rev. Louis Gigante – a Catholic priest and a former NYC councilman.
