Michael (Porky) Nicoline

Michael Nicoline, who went by the nickname "Porky," conducted most of his mob business in The Bronx, New York , and was affiliated with the regime of Genovese capo Anthony (Tony Bender) Strollo .

Michael (Porky) Nicoline - aka Michael Nicolini, Michael Ceritello, Mark Nicoline, and Michael Nicolino (TN) - was born in New York City on April 13, 1914 (alternative date is April 12, 1914.) He was one of six brothers and sisters born to parents John and Marie (nee’ Conti) Nicolino. He grew up and later resided all his life around various Bronx neighborhoods.

He later met and married the former Marie DeCarlo, and soon, the couple had a daughter together they named Marianne. The family moved into a home at 61 Bronx River Road in the Yonkers section of New York.

Nicoline stood about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighed a stocky 180 pounds. Early photographs show him with short salt and pepper hair, brown eyes, and a pudgy face giving way to his mob nickname of “Porky.”

Nicoline was a steady and dependable mob habituate of his Bronx County. This is where Porky was said to have conducted most of his criminal activities. Among his favorite daily hangouts were the Gun Hill Tavern, Burke’s Bar, Porcaro’s A&C Luncheonette, Castle Hill Diner, Wee Small Hours Bar, and the Polka Lounge. All were located up in the Bronx.

“Porky’s” criminal record started in 1930 when he was only 17 years old. Over the years, Nicoline picked up arrests for grand larceny, robbery, burglary, possessing stolen goods, and gambling.

Nicoline eventually rose to some prominence in the local underworld and became affiliated with the Luciano/Genovese family. He was thought to have been a member of caporegime Anthony (Tony Bender) Strollo's “crew."

Although never listed on the 1963 Valachi Charts or any other government chart as a formal member of the Mafia, Nicoline was quite possibly an inducted soldier of the Genovese family. At the very least, he would be considered a top-ranked “associate" member. Most of the hoodlums he was known to affiliate with were indeed directly connected to the Strollo regime.

They included such men as Vincent (Vinny Bruno) Mauro , Carmine Di Salvo, Pasquale (Paddy Mush) Moccio, Pasquale (Patsy) Pagano, Joseph (Joe Cago) Valachi, and Frank (Frankie the Bug) Caruso. Others included Gambino capo Rocco Mazzie, Gambino soldier Frank (Frankie the Boss) Moccardi, Michael (Giggy) Monica, and Lucchese capo and narcotics kingpin, John (Big John) Ormento.

By the 1950s, Porky had become the owner-operator of a small private racetrack-taxicab service shuttling horse bettors from various Bronx and Upper Manhattan neighborhoods to Yonkers Raceway. It was the one legitimate business that Nicoline was ever known to be affiliated with.

After the death from natural causes of fellow regime soldier Pasquale Moccio, agents from the Federal Bureau of Narcotics received word that Nicoline had assumed the previous duties of Moccio and was now one of those hoodlums in control of wholesale narcotics distribution in the Bronx. Nicoline was known to have represented the interests of the “Strollo drug organization.”

Michael (Porky) Nicoline died on December 8, 1983. He was 69 years old.
