During his heyday, mafioso Charles Inglesia, better known in the Windy City as “Chuckie English,” was a top soldier with the Chicago Outfit.
He served the Outfit loyally for decades. More importantly, he served Family boss Salvatore (Sam Mooney) Giancana loyally for decades as one of his closest and most trusted aides. In fact, Sam and Chuckie were considered “compare.”
Chuckie English specialized in jukebox and other coin-machine rackets. He also operated in gambling and loansharking, known in Chicago as the “juice” racket. And he dabbled in business infiltration and extortion as well.
Unfortunately, Chuckie’s unwavering loyalty to Giancana eventually cost him dearly.
Fearing a malcontent within their ranks after Giancana’s assassination, the Outfit dispatched a couple of hitters who caught up with English in the early evening hours of February 13, 1985. They shot the aging mafioso right between the eyes in the parking lot of Horwath’s restaurant in Chicago’s Elmwood Park neighborhood.
Mr. Charles (Chuckie English) Inglesia was 70 years old.
