“Vic” Maddi: Texas Mafia Soldier

Victor Maddi was an FBI-documented soldier in the Joseph Civello Family of Dallas, Texas, who served as an enforcer under the auspices of powerful "senior member" Biagio (Big Angelo) Angelica .

Victor (Vic) Maddi, aka; Victor Maddie, Joseph Debrow, Joseph Debra. He was born on April 25, 1905, in Kansas City, Missouri. At some point, he relocated permanently to Texas, setting down roots in Houston. He married a woman named Jacqueline, and they bought a pretty ranch-styled home at 8518 Glen Valley Drive in Houston.

In the coming decades, Maddi operated his criminal rackets in conjunction with his fellow mafiosi all across the city. But he also was a regular visitor to the nearby City of Galveston, just 50 miles away. He owned a wholesale beer and soda beverage business named All-Brands Beer Distributing Company in Galveston and while there was known to frequent several various locations.

Vic stood about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighed in at a solid 170 pounds. He had dark brown eyes and thinning black hair which was balding on top.

Maddi’s criminal record dates back to 1924, when he was just 19 years old. Over the years, he was arrested for suspicion of armed robbery, bootlegging and Federal Prohibition Law violations, interfering with a federal officer, assault, and battery.

Although he resided and operated in Houston and Galveston, over the years, law enforcement authorities identified Victor Maddi as a documented soldier of the old Joseph Civello Family , headquartered in Dallas, Texas.

He most probably served under the auspices of "senior member" and leader Biagio (Big Angelo) Angelica, who was generally considered the most prominent and powerful member of that Family operating in the southeastern section of the state.

According to law enforcement sources and police informants, Maddi had a reputation as a strong-arm man. The Federal Narcotics Bureau once reported Maddi "is considered an 'enforcer' for the Mafia in the Houston-Galveston area. He is also a close associate of narcotics trafficker Biagio Angelica.”

Angelica was known as a top narcotics dealer who worked with a major Mafia-connected ring that smuggled heroin into Texas and across state lines to other southern states.

Aside from Angelica, other mafiosi and racketeers who Maddi was known to associate and do business with were fellow members of the Civello Family’s Galveston regime including soldiers Louis Marino, Giuseppe (Joe) Massa, Joseph (Joe Luke) Lucca, Salvatore (Sam) Maceo, and Vincent D’Ingianni. He was also suspected of having been close to former Family leader, Joseph T. Piranio.

And as a formally inducted member of the Family, Vic would have most probably been acquainted with, and on intimate terms with, Family boss Joseph Civello himself, as well as other top members of that borgata such as underboss Rosario (Ross) Musso, Francesco (Frank) Ianni, and Pietro (Pete) Duca.

Vic often frequented the M. & M. Music Co., a Galveston-based jukebox and coin-machine business jointly owned by Angelica and Marino.

Other favored locations and hangouts included the Embassy Lounge at 1508 Texas Ave. in Houston (owned by Joe Lucca.) Also, the Swanky Inn Bar (owned by Louis Marino), the White House Motel (owned by Vinny D’Ingianni), and the Boulevard Hotel, all in Galveston.

It is believed that mafioso Victor (Vic) Maddi passed away in 1994, at the very respectable old age of 89.
